At primary school, Glenn had to learn how to bat left-handed as no bowler could dismiss him when he batted in his normal right-handed stance. He was even told that he would get banned from playing unless he switched to left-handed batting.
Glenn began his cricketing journey in the Australian junior circuit. He used to be a pace bowler at that time before remodeling his run-up to become an off-break bowler.
He was the most expensive player at the 2013 IPL auctions when the franchise team Mumbai Indians snapped him up for 1 million USD.
For his performances in the 2014 IPL, he was named in ESPN Cricinfo‘s “IPL XI OF 2014”.

He, however, denied and refuted all such claims as baseless.
In October 2019, Glenn announced that he would be taking an indefinite break from the game to tackle his mental health issues. However, he returned to the game in late December to participate in the Big Bash League (BBL), Australia’s franchise-based T20 competition.
In February 2021, during the IPL Players Auction, he was sold for a price of INR 14.25 crore to IPL team Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

In November 2023, Glenn recorded the highest-ever score by an Australian in ODI cricket history after he smashed 201* runs during the World Cup match against Afghanistan.
