WWE Hall of Famer Jerry "The King" Lawler was suspended indefinitely by the company on June 17 after he and fiancee Lauryn McBride were arrested and charged with domestic violence earlier in the day in Memphis, Tennessee.

WWE announced that Lawler's ban was in relation to the company's zero-tolerance policy on domestic violence. The charges against both Lawler and McBride were eventually dropped, per WMCActionNews5.com.

According to Eric Lipford of WREG in Memphis, the 66-year-old Lawler and 27-year-old McBride were jailed at roughly 1 a.m. ET on June 17.

Lawler accused McBride of scratching him in the face, hitting him with a candle and kicking him in the groin, all while intoxicated.

McBride alleged that Lawler struck her in the head, pushed her and told her to kill herself after putting an unloaded pistol on a kitchen counter. Lawler said it was McBride who brought the gun into the room.

"When she drinks we get into a little bit of a shouting match, and then she wants to leave," Lawler said to WMC Action News 5. "I was not going to let her leave in the car, because she was not in any condition to drive. She got more and more upset. It's an unfortunate situation as a result of someone drinking too much. I'm saddened by it and hope we can get past this."

Lawler is a color commentator for WWE SmackDown alongside Mauro Ranallo and Byron Saxton. He also serves on the pre-show panel for WWE pay-per-views.

Lawler broke into the wrestling business as an in-ring performer in 1970 and went on to win more than 100 championships during his career.

The King is perhaps best known for a 1982 feud with comedian Andy Kaufman that blurred the lines between what was legitimate and what was staged in professional wrestling.

He has been with WWE for the better part of the past 24 years after signing with the company in 1992, acting primarily as an announcer but wrestling at times as well.

WWE inducted Lawler into its Hall of Fame in 2007.
